DEMOGRAPHY
At the beginning of 2014, there were 15,135,169 people living in Cambodia with males making up 7,385,676 of the countries population. Women made up 7,749,493 of Cambodia's population. Cambodia is highly populated and has a population density of 84. Cambodia has a life expectancy of 71.41, with it slowly but surely improving over the past number of decades since the world war. The life expectancy for men is 68.78 and the life expectancy for women is 74.17, due to the men being place with a much heavier workload. The life expectancy is low because of the unsanitary living conditions, contraction of diseases, drinking of dirty water, etc. These problems are so hard to fix because only 5.7% of the countries total income is spent on health, with a physicians density of 0.23 Education in Cambodia is controlled by the ministry of education.
Although kids have the opportunity to go to school, the Cambodian government have only allocated 9% of its budget to school funds. The government only has limited access to the rural education system and the children living in these rural areas are often very disadvantaged.
The more populated parts of Cambodia have small amounts of clean drinking water but over 50% of the rural Cambodia population do not have access to clean drinking water. Around 20% of the deaths of children under 5 are due to waterborne diseases.
The typical family in Cambodia lives in a rectangular house that may vary in size from 4 by 6 to 6 by 10 meters. These houses are constructed of a wooden frame with a gabled thatch roof and walls of wooden bamboo.
